Eldest- Inheritance Cycle Book 2-THIS MIGHT HAVE SOME SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ERAGON! Scroll down to read... Ajihod, the leader of the Varden, has died in the battle of Farthen Dur, and Eragon's friend Murtagh has been captured by the Urgal, a type of Greenskin. Meanwhile, Eragon's brother Roran defends Carvahall from the grasp of the evil Ra'zac who are under the command of King Galbatorix. While this happens, Eragon (Now called Eragon Shadeslayer since his triumph over Durza), must travel to Ellesmera, the capital city of the Elves, to receive his training as a Dragon Rider. Soon after, he must return to the Varden to battle the friend he once lost: Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn, who are now under the control of Galbatorix. In the inusing battle, only Murtagh's self-restraint can hold back the final strike that could have killed Eragon, but he took the sword, Zar'roc which should have been rightfully his. Firstly, I do not think that this book was as good as Eragon. This is because (and this is only what I think) the story is quite disjointed, with the story jumping from Roran to Eragon to Roran to Eragon... Still, this is a rather good sequel to the first book and satisfies a lot of questions that you may have. I think that this is the worst book so far, but this doesn't mean that it is bad. It still retains a lot of the amazing ideas from the first book, but I think that the flow of ideas begins to slow down in this book. As well as all of this, I think that the loss of Ajihod is a major drawback on the story.
Brisingr- Inheritance Cycle Book 3-THIS HAS SOME SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ERAGON OR ELDEST! Scroll down to reveal all... Roran, Eragon and Saphira take a trip to Helgrind, a black spiked mountain in Dras-Leona which is the home of the Ra'zac, to do two things: avenge their father's death, and to rescue Roran's lover, Katrina. Eventually, Eragon manages to slay both the two Ra'zac and their steeds. While Saphira, Katrina and Roran return home, Eragon stays behind to deal with Katrina's father. When Eragon returns to camp, he must lift the curse on a young baby girl that he had beset on her, and now she may prove more dangerous than ever. After losing Zar'roc to Murtagh, Eragon had been using Murtagh's one and a half handed sword, which was by then already dented and worn. So he got a new weapon a falchion which also snapped. Eragon returns once again to Ellesmera, where he receives the last of his training, and where he also learns the secret to Galbatorix's seemingly endless supply of power. He also discovers that he is in fact the son of Brom. Eventually, the master elvish craftswoman, Rhunon, agrees to make a Dragon Rider's sword, the same type of sword as Zar'roc, made of brightsteel. Eragon names the sword Brisingr, "fire" in the ancient language and it is possibly the most powerful sword ever created. This book was AMAZING, and I finished it in about 2 days' worth of reading. What was surprising was that the flow of ideas that I thought had slowed down in Eldest now returned in full flow in Brisingr. This was hands-down the best book so far because it has some fabulous new ideas, and a couple new characters. This book glues you to the series, and makes sure that you crave, and I mean crave, for the next book.
Eragon- Inheritance Cycle Book 1 As in all of these books, Eragon takes place in the land of Alagaesia, which is ruled by the evil and twisted Galbatorix. Galbatorix was once a Dragon Rider, a member of the lengendary chosen ones. But this legacy soon died out when he slayed all of the Riders. This book tells the story of a young man, Eragon Garrowson, who finds a mysterious blue stone in the cursed peaks of the Spine. Horrible monsters inhabit this untamed mountain range, and few from the village of Carvahall come here other than Eragon. After trying to sell the stone, Eragon found out that the stone was made of unbreakable material and was hollow. Soon after witnessing the hatching of a baby dragon from the stone, he is forced to hide the rapidly-growing creature from his family. Once he realises he has been chosen as a Dragon Rider, one of the last of his kind, he has to go on a journey to avenge his father's death at the wicked hands of the mysterious Ra'zac. He goes with the local story-teller and the only person who knows about dragons, Brom, on this journey and he is given a mysterious red sword by Brom, named Zar'roc, made of a stronger material than even diamond. Will Eragon be able to avenge his father's death? I really enjoyed this book, because it really captivates you and makes sure that you want to read the next books. I think that this was the second best of the books so far because it has a very strong storyline that isn't too hard to understand, and it helps you to easily get a grip onto this series. There are some very good ideas put into this book. Many of these became characters, and some even became events. Overall, this was a very good book.
This series is about a young man, Eragon Garrowsson/Shadeslayer/ Bromsson, who becomes a Dragon Rider. Anyone who likes adventure and fantasy will love this cycle, as I did :). My favourite character was Murtagh, who was a normal human who was forced into being evil. I like him because he isn't anything special, but he still has a major role in this story. He also is a good person inside, as he was forced to become a force for evil. My favourite scene was in Brisingr, when the ancient sword-crafter, Rhunon, aided Eragon in creating his Dragon Rider's sword. I found this part very interesting, because it reflects how real swords are made, and gives you a sense of awe as this mighty weapon is crafted. My overall opinion of this series is that it is wonderful. Although that I noticed that ideas have been derived from other books, and many dislike this series because of thar, I think that Paolini has used these ideas to make some completely different. This series completely captivated me, and I absolutely can't wait for the fourth book to arrive.
A 4th Book!? A fourth book, presumably going to be named Empire is going to be released sometime soon for the finale of this wonderful series. Watch out for it!
A movie!? Eragon has already been released as a movie, and Eldest is soon to come. The trailer for Eragon is right here. I'm sad to say that I have not watched the movie, though I will definitely watch it on a later date.
